Divine Tanjore Paintings

Where perfection and quality thrive in harmony

We love what we do

Every project is close to our heart. Our artists wholeheartedly immerse themselves into the intricacies of the art to make each one a masterpiece.

Our working process

Every picture you order goes through a thorough process of quality checks to ensure that you receive only the finest works of art.

The art
Traditionally, a Tanjore painting was made on a canvas pasted over a wooden plank with Arabic gum. The canvas was then evenly coated with a paste of French chalk or powdered limestone and a binding medium, after which it was dried. The artist then drew or traced, using a stencil, a detailed outline of the main and subsidiary subjects on the canvas. A paste made of limestone powder and a binding medium called sukkan or makku was used to create the final look. Next, gold leaves and gems of varied hues were inlaid in selected areas like pillars, arches, thrones, dresses, and so on. Finally, the artist applied colours to the sketch.

Divine Tanjore Paintings was born with the idea of promoting this ancient art and the artists involved.

The subject
The subjects of most Tanjore paintings are Hindu gods, goddesses, and saints. There are, however, many instances when Jainism, Sikhism, Islam, Christianity, and other religions were depicted in these paintings as well.
